Promoter and head of Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn, has commented on a potential fight between super middleweight undisputed champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) and David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs).
"It's not happening right now, but who knows what the future holds. Canelo named a big number, regardless of whether it's a real number. But why not?
He's telling the world, 'If you want this, you have to pay for it.' And right now, there's big money for big fights. In my opinion, that's too much, but who knows how close they can get.
But David was here tonight at the boxing event (Hitchins vs. Lemos), and he seemed to be having a great time; he's a hell of a fighter," said Hearn.
Recently, Canelo stated that for a fight against Benavidez, he should be offered $150-200 million.
Canelo Alvarez is scheduled to fight Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) on May 4th in Las Vegas, USA. David Benavidez is preliminarily set to meet Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) on June 15th.
