Ben Shalom Supports the Idea of Using VAR During the Usyk — Fury Fight

Prominent promoter Ben Shalom has backed the idea proposed by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman on the necessity of introducing video replays in boxing and called for testing the technology during the bout for the absolute championship in the heavyweight division (over 90.7 kg), featuring WBA, WBO, IBO, and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) against WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs).

"I think for major fights it's very important. At the moment, there are so many decisions that are constantly questioned. It's frustrating for a promoter as well because you're usually the one who gets blamed. I like this initiative, but it needs investment for everyone to get on board.

But when the stakes are so high and when a fighter's career goes one way or another based on a decision made at the end of the fight, you look at other sports - tennis, football. Boxing is also a huge sport right now. It's one of the biggest sports in the world, especially in Britain. It's time to invest so that fans can believe in what's happening. See what's happening. And we could make a decision. I think it will also add even more excitement."

The bout for the absolute championship in the heavyweight division (over 90.7 kg) between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is scheduled for May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
