On the night of May 5th in Las Vegas, USA, Mexican super middleweight undisputed champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) will defend his status against fellow Mexican Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs).
Renowned American trainer Teddy Atlas shared his assessment of the fight, believing it has all the right elements to captivate boxing fans.
"What is the best buildup? The best promotion? The best setup? There's an old saying: will the young lion take his place? That's what this fight is about. Has the old lion lost some claws and teeth? Has he become a bit slower? The young lion has claws and teeth, but does he have the experience?
The fight with John Ryder showed that Munguia is still improving after 43 fights. He still has a long way to go in working on defense. That's a negative aspect. But it's a positive for us. Canelo still hits accurately and hard. Munguia is not hard to hit. This is a recipe for a damn good fight," said Atlas.
On the night of May 2nd, a press conference was held for the fight between Saul Alvarez and Jaime Munguia. The main event of the evening was a verbal skirmish between Canelo and his former promoter Oscar De La Hoya, who now represents Munguia, and Canelo.
