Athletic Commission Reviewing Knockdown Controversy in Davis vs. Roach

The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) has confirmed that it is "reviewing the case" concerning the controversial moment in the WBA lightweight title fight between Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs).

"During the round in question, a technical issue arose after the commission requested a video replay, preventing us from accessing the footage within the allotted review time.

As a result, the referee's in-ring decision stood, and the fight continued. The commission is committed to maintaining the integrity of combat sports and will work with all promotional and production groups—on behalf of the fighters, officials, and fans—to ensure that technical issues do not prevent instant replay access for officials in future events."

For reference, on March 1, during the fight, Davis took a knee in what appeared to be a knockdown. Referee Steve Willis began a count but then stopped, as Davis moved toward the edge of the ring and his corner wiped his face. The count was never resumed, and the knockdown was not recorded on the judges' scorecards.

The fight resulted in a majority draw, with two judges scoring it 114-114 and the third giving Davis a 115-113 victory. Had the knockdown been counted, Davis would have lost the fight on the cards.

After the bout, Davis explained his actions, but the controversy surrounding the incident remains unresolved.
