Arum Doubts Gervonta’s Seriousness After Roach Fight

Top Rank founder and veteran promoter Bob Arum has voiced his doubts about WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) following Davis’ recent bout against Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs).

I believe Roach won the fight. It was a close one. I think Davis needs to start taking boxing seriously. It’s not just about media attention. He looked pretty average out there. I don’t know if he’s capable of changing. I wanted to take a good look at him because he’s being considered as a possible opponent for fighters I promote,” Arum said.

For reference, the fight between Davis and Roach took place on March 1 and ended in a draw.

The bout stirred controversy, particularly due to an incident in the ninth round, when Davis took a knee but the referee did not rule it a knockdown — sparking debate among fans and boxing insiders.

A rematch between Davis and Roach is reportedly being targeted for June 21 in Las Vegas.
