Adames – New WBC Champion

Carlos Adames (23-1, 18 KOs), formerly the "interim" WBC middleweight champion (up to 160 lbs), has officially been elevated to the status of full champion by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

This was announced on the WBC website: "The WBC Board has decided to confirm Carlos Adames as the acting WBC middleweight champion, upgrading him from 'interim' world champion status. Following a thorough assessment of the situation, the WBC may consider moving Jermall Charlo to super middleweight," the WBC statement read.

It was previously reported that Jermall Charlo had been detained for driving under the influence and involvement in an accident. Before the fight between super middleweight absolute champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Jaime Munguia, Jermall had stated that he would be Canelo’s next opponent.
