Zepeda Destroys Hughes: Fight Statistics

On March 16th at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, USA, Mexican lightweight (up to 61,2 kg) William Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) faced British Maxi Hughes (26-7-2, 5 KOs) in a WBA and IBF eliminator.

The fight concluded with Zepeda's victory after Hughes could not continue – RTD 4.

This marks Zepeda's third consecutive early win. In 2023, William fought twice, winning both by knockout against Jaime Arboleda (19-3, 14 KOs) and Mercito Gesta (34-4-3, 17 KOs).

Fight Statistics:

Zepeda landed 161 out of 408 punches thrown (39.5%). Hughes landed 53 out of 221 (24%).

William landed 56 jabs out of 180 thrown (31.1%). Hughes landed 19 out of 110 (17.3%).

Zepeda's power punches: 105 out of 228 (46.1%). Hughes's power punches: 34 out of 111 (30.6%).

What's Next?

Zepeda becomes the mandatory challenger for the WBA and IBF lightweight titles.

The WBA title is currently held by American Gervonta Davis. Preliminary information suggests he will face Frank Martin in his next fight. There's no official date for the fight yet, but it seems it won't happen before summer 2024.

Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos will box for the IBF belt on May 12th in Australia. Based on the timing of the champions' fights, it's likely that the winner of Loma — Kambosos will become Zepeda's primary target.
