After securing a victory over Mark Hughes (26-7-2, 5 KOs) in the 4th round, Mexican lightweight (up to 61,2 kg) William Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) has issued a challenge to Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs).
"Yes, I want big names in boxing. We have to acknowledge that Shakur is one of those big names. I want to show what I'm capable of, and Shakur is one of those guys against whom I can do it.
I know my boxing style is perfect for Shakur; I throw a lot of punches, confuse and just pressure him. I know this will bring me victory in this fight," Zepeda stated.
Shakur Stevenson also commented on William's victory.
"So, you want to see me fight the machine? I'm down," Shakur posted on Twitter.
Promoter and head of Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya, didn't stay on the sidelines.
"Hey, Shakur Stevenson, meet William Zepeda," Oscar tweeted.
On March 16th at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, USA, in a WBA/IBF eliminator, Mexican William Zepeda met British Maxi Hughes.
The fight concluded with Zepeda's victory after Hughes could not continue — RTD 4, making William the mandatory challenger for the WBA and IBF lightweight titles.
