The ex-trainer of the ex-world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, Robert Garcia, who prepared the Briton for a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, shared his thoughts on the boxer's future.
In particular, the expert assessed the chances of the British boxer in a potential fight with Deontay Wilder.
"One thing I told Joshua's team and I'll tell them again is that I don't recommend they look for a big fight right away. Anthony is a big star in Europe, one of the biggest in history. He should look for two or three fights that are a bit more adequate. I don't want to say easy, because there are no easy fights, and he needs a more adequate fight.
He needs to regain his confidence and get used to the new coach. Because it was a big problem to find a new coach and go immediately against Usyk, as it was in my case. It was a challenge not only for AJ but also for me to go for the rematch after dominating the first fight. It was difficult.
I worked with Anthony and he hits hard. I've never felt Wilder's power, but that looks like a hard punch, too. But Anthony's punch is very strong, no less strong than Wilder's punch. That's why I think that whoever gets a good shot first will win the fight," Boxing Scene quotes Garcia.
