Klitschko Plans to Run for World Boxing President

According to Inside The Games, former unified Heavyweight world champion and Olympic gold medalist Wladimir Klitschko plans to take part in the upcoming elections for president of World Boxing.

World Boxing was created to replace the scandal-hit IBA. Its primary mission is to preserve boxing within the Olympic system by ensuring transparent governance and reducing judging controversies. The IBA had become infamous for corruption, questionable officiating, and conflicts between its Russian leadership and the IOC.

It has already been confirmed that the organization’s first president, Boris van der Vorst, will not seek a second term. Alongside Klitschko, former world champion Gennadiy Golovkin and Greek Boxing Federation president Haris Mariolis are also expected to run.

The elections will take place in November. According to the World Boxing Election and Voting Regulations, all candidates will be evaluated by an independent commission based on publicly available information. The commission includes three external experts with no prior links to World Boxing.
