Malik Scott, the trainer of former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (43-3-1, 42 KOs), has chosen his top pound-for-pound (P4P) boxer.
"I thought it would be Usyk's win. Before the fight, I talked about this, I thought the fight would be stopped due to a cut.
The interesting thing about Usyk, his team, and his training system is that when he was a champion in another weight category, cruiserweight, even before he became a heavyweight champion, they were already planning fights against Joshua and Fury. They trained for Joshua and Fury even when preparing for other fights.
I see how this materializes into something that is an incredible success story, it makes me proud of Usyk. I've spent a lot of time with him in training camps not only in the States. I traveled with him to Ukraine. If anyone deserved such a moment, it's Usyk, who recently defeated Fury in grand style.
When I say grand style, I mean he showed a big heart. It was a very close fight, yes, but when I talk about a big heart, I mean he demonstrated great courage. He didn't despair.
At one point, I thought the fight was getting out of control, but he should always be praised for finding a way to win against any style, against any opponent, no matter how big. He always finds a way to win.
If we are talking about who is the best in the world right now, he should be at the top of the pound-for-pound ranking. Because of what he has done, he simply must be there," Scott said.
Malik Scott has often been a sparring partner for Oleksandr Usyk.
