The 38-year-old former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (43-3-1, 42 KOs) is already considering what he might do after his boxing career.
"I want to add myself to the list of undisputed champions before I leave this sport. I'm not here forever, as we know that age is an important factor. But also, a big role is how you feel and take care of your body.
We've seen many boxers fight even past 50 – look at Bernard Hopkins, for example. But not everyone can do that.
I don't know what I'll do after boxing, but I know I won't box forever. I am very talented. There are many other areas in life, so I just can't put all my eggs in one basket.
Boxing is not the only thing I can do. Many fighters say that fighting is all they know. I wholeheartedly hate hearing them say that. You have an expiration date in life, and surely you have an expiration date as a fighter.
And if that's all they know, I hope they're saving or investing their money somewhere. Because money comes, but it also goes faster than it comes.
So I am seeking greatness. I always tell people that we all have greatness in us because greatness is only defined by service," Wilder said.
The American's next fight will take place on June 1 in Saudi Arabia against Chinese fighter Zhang Zhilei.
