Former coach of Deontay Wilder, Malik Scott, believes a clash between the American knockout artist and cruiserweight influencer‑boxer Jake Paul is a genuine possibility:
“Jake is very serious about fighting Deontay Wilder. I was in New York for Katie Taylor’s fight and had just met Jake Paul’s business partner—Most Valuable Promotions co‑founder Nakisa Bidarian—literally three minutes ago.
The first thing he said was, ‘We’re interested in a fight with Deontay Wilder.’
He asked what I thought. They’re truly committed. Some of the things he told me with confidence make it clear this isn’t bluster—they really believe they can beat Wilder.
I don’t know if it will ever materialize, but there’s something to this Jake Paul story. I think the key to their success is timing.
But if we’re talking about Jake in the ring with Deontay Wilder—it just doesn’t make sense. Unfortunately, Jake Paul is now an important figure in boxing from a financial standpoint,” Scott told Seconds Out for Thunderpick.
Earlier Jake Paul (12‑1, 7 KOs) said he wants to face Anthony Joshua at Wembley. Deontay Wilder (44‑4‑1, 43 KOs) last fought when he knocked out Tyrrell Herndon in round seven.
