Malik Scott, coach of American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (43-3-1, 42 KOs), has expressed disapproval of the talks about a potential fight between his charge and 24-year-old prospect Jared Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs).
"I'm not in favor of the news about Jared Anderson; we are gearing up for a big fight. We are facing one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the world, and we want to make a statement in true Wilder style by delivering a chilling knockout. Our mission is to execute Zhang.
Jared Anderson has gone the distance with guys who aren't as explosive as Deontay. He's a super talented young lion, but he hasn't faced anyone of Deontay's level yet. There are question marks over him; he makes mistakes that he would need to rectify before facing Deontay, otherwise, he's going to get knocked out.
He's immensely talented. He's quick, but I've seen him struggle with guys who are not on Deontay's level. Last time he went the distance with a guy who isn't a puncher," said Scott.
On June 1st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Deontay Wilder will face Chinese Zhilei Zhang (26-2-1, 21 KOs) as part of the 5 vs 5 tournament between promotional companies Matchroom Boxing and Queensberry Promotions.
