Why Not Ennis? Bohachuk’s Promoter Explains Opponent Choice

Promoter of Ukrainian Super Welterweight Serhii Bohachuk, Tom Loeffler, explained why their team did not choose to fight Jaron Ennis next. Earlier, Ennis’ promoter Eddie Hearn revealed they had offered a fight to Bohachuk.

“I know Eddie Hearn mentioned a big offer for Serhii, but we were already working on this fight, and I told Eddie about that. We believe this is a more important step for his career — to have a rematch with Brandon Adams on the Canelo–Crawford card.

After that, we can always look at what opportunities open up for Serhii in the future. He is the mandatory challenger for the WBC title. His position is very strong, and we still believe he is the best fighter in the Super Welterweight division.

This is a big, high-profile fight for him. And if everything goes well, we’ll be preparing for major events in the future. The number of people who will be watching — not only boxing fans, but media, celebrities, and everyone tuning in on Netflix — will be absolutely massive. It’s going to be bigger than anything I know, especially with Netflix’s involvement and international reach.

This is the biggest stage Serhii could dream of fighting on. It’s an opportunity we simply couldn’t pass up,” said Loeffler.

On September 13 in Las Vegas, Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs) will face Brandon Adams (25-4, 16 KOs), who previously defeated him by technical knockout in 2021.
