Insider Michael Benson, referencing journalist Dan Rafael, discussed the reasons behind the termination of the collaboration between the promotional company Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) of Al Haymon and the undisputed super middleweight (up to 76,2 kg) champion Saul Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs).
According to sources, PBC was ready to pay Alvarez a guaranteed purse for a fight against Jermall Charlo in May. However, an additional condition was a fight against David Benavidez in September. It's noted that Canelo's contract with PBC originally included guaranteed sums for fights against various potential opponents, but Benavidez was never on this list of opponents. This meant Canelo had to either agree to a reduced purse for the fight against Jermell or meet David in the fall.
Canelo did not want to agree to the changes in the agreements, and the parties mutually decided to terminate their collaboration.
