Alexander Krassyuk, head of the promotional company K2 Promotions and CBDO of Ready To Fight, has revealed why their boxer Denis Berinchyk (18-0, 9 KOs) did not receive a title opportunity sooner.
"When the war started, Berinchyk was in the top three for the WBO title. The only reason he did not fight for the world championship title before the war is the presence of Lomachenko in this weight category. It's not that Berinchyk's fight was blocked. It's just that Vasyl had his own path with Top Rank. They had their plans.
And, of course, all organizations were very lenient towards this, giving way at the expense of those who are lower in the rankings.
It's a known fact that a fight between Lomachenko and Berinchyk would be so-so from a marketing perspective... Two Ukrainians... In Ukraine, it would have been interesting. But in the USA – not so much," said Krassyuk.
Berinchyk received his title shot only in 2024. On May 18th in the USA, he will fight Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO belt.
