Former champions and now boxing experts Chris Algieri and Paulie Malignaggi shared which boxer left the biggest impression on them in 2024. According to both specialists, that fighter is the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs).
Chris Algieri: “Oleksandr Usyk. Definitely Usyk. What he accomplished this year—two huge victories over Tyson Fury—is enough to cement him in history as one of the greatest. I know many say he’s not, but based on his accomplishments and on whom he’s beaten, he cleaned out cruiserweight, unified titles in cruiserweight and heavyweight. Considering the opponents he’s defeated along the way, he’s definitely going to be remembered forever.”
Paulie Malignaggi: “Usyk.”
In 2024, Oleksandr Usyk fought Tyson Fury twice: on May 18, the Ukrainian won by split decision, becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the world (over 90.7 kg) in 25 years. In their December 21 rematch, he repeated that success, earning a unanimous decision victory.
