On April 20, Birmingham, UK hosted the highly anticipated all-British rematch between Ben Whittaker (9-0-1, 6 KOs) and Liam Cameron (23-7-1, 10 KOs) — a bout that ended in emphatic fashion, with Whittaker scoring a second-round TKO.
After sealing the win in dominant style, Whittaker opened up about the fight, emphasizing not just his flashiness, but his focus this time around.
“Liam and I had a chat in the ring. He told me no one has ever beaten him up like that.
What happened in Saudi Arabia had to happen. I’m still flashy, I’m still cool — but when I stepped into that ring, I was disciplined. Now people know I can punch too,” said Whittaker
On the other side, Liam Cameron gave full credit to his opponent, admitting he never quite had a chance to settle into the bout.
“Don’t touch me. It is what it is. I’ve got no complaints. It’s already done, Now I’ll buy myself a house. It just happened that way. The fight went too quickly. It was madness. This is Ben’s night — let it be his night. I don’t want to take anything away from him. You’ve got to give him his due. Everything happened so fast,” Cameron said.
Their first encounter took place on October 12 of last year and ended in one of the strangest scenes of 2023 — after the bell in round five, both fighters tumbled out of the ring, with Whittaker sustaining an injury that prevented him from continuing. The result? A technical draw.
Judges’ scorecards at the time read: 58-58, 58-57 Whittaker, and 58-57 Cameron.
