What's Next for Inoue? News from Arum and Matchroom Reaction

On September 3 in Tokyo, Japan, local undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (28-0, 25 KOs) defended his title against Ireland's T.J. Doheny (26-5, 20 KOs). After securing another victory, Inoue shared his thoughts on the fight and the future.

"I think this is just the result of all my actions. Today, I focused on this one fight and didn’t think about the future. I knew my opponent would be tough, so I needed to concentrate fully on him," Inoue said.

Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum, who represents Inoue, revealed the future plans for the Japanese champion.

"It was a remarkable fight. He’ll return to Tokyo at the end of the year to defend his title again, and then we’ll bring him to the U.S. for a grand celebration in Las Vegas," Arum announced.

Meanwhile, Matchroom Boxing also reacted to Inoue’s victory, reminding fans that the undisputed champion was originally set to face Uzbekistan’s Murodjon Akhmadaliev (12-1, 9 KOs) instead of Doheny.

"Congratulations to Naoya Inoue, but MJ is waiting," Matchroom stated in a message.

In the Inoue vs. Doheny bout, Doheny experienced back pain at the end of the 6th round and was unable to continue at the start of the 7th, leading the referee to stop the fight. TKO 7.
