Inoue Stops Doheny Early: Key Stats and Facts

On September 3 in Tokyo, Japan, a boxing event took place with the main event featuring local undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (28-0, 25 KOs) against Ireland’s T.J. Doheny (26-5, 20 KOs).

At the beginning of the 7th round, Doheny grabbed his lower back, prompting the referee to stop the fight. TKO 7.  

This victory marks Inoue’s 9th consecutive stoppage win. For Doheny, the loss ended a three-fight winning streak.

According to Compubox, Inoue was the more active fighter, throwing 201 punches and landing 93 of them (46.3%). Doheny threw 181 punches, landing 52 (28.7%).

Inoue is expected to return to the ring in December, as announced by his promoter Bob Arum right after the fight. The identity of his next opponent is still unknown.

After that, Arum plans to bring Inoue back to the United States. The last time Inoue fought in America was in 2021, where he won all three of his bouts there, all by stoppage (2 by knockout and 1 by corner retirement).
