WBO President: «Usyk vs Fury Is About Legacy and History»

World Boxing Organization (WBO) President Paco Valcárcel commented on the upcoming fight between WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg) Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) and WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs).

«This is more than just about the WBO or other organizations; this fight is about writing boxing history. The winner will become a legend. This is very important. It's more significant than any organization, people, or fans. It's about legacy and history, which are crucial for the sport. This fight is about skill versus skill; both are very good boxers. They can move, they can box, and it will be very interesting. Styles make fights. Whoever makes a mistake will be punished.

Usyk won the WBO belt in cruiserweight, was previously the WBO Inter-Continental champion, then won the WBSS, moved up to heavyweight where he became the mandatory challenger, and then beat Joshua twice. Now he is here to make history. We are proud of Usyk and what he is doing for boxing and his country. We always pray for peace in the world,» said Valcárcel.

The fight for the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world between Usyk and Fury will take place on the night of May 19 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
