The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has officially mandated that Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs), the reigning WBO junior welterweight (63.5 kg) champion, must make a mandatory title defense against the winner of the upcoming bout between Jack Catterall (30-1, 13 KOs) and Arnold Barboza Jr. (31-0, 11 KOs).
According to WBO’s ruling, Lopez is required to face the winner within 180 days after their fight. This move aims to eliminate the interim championship status and establish a single, undisputed WBO champion in the division.
The fight between Catterall and Barboza for the interim WBO title is scheduled for February 15 in Manchester, UK.
Teofimo Lopez last stepped into the ring in June 2024, defeating Steve Claggett by unanimous decision to retain his title.
