The WBO has officially ordered a fight between unbeaten contenders Sam Nokes (17-0, 15 KOs) and Abdullah Mason (19-0, 17 KOs) for the vacant WBO Lightweight title, according to organization president Gustavo Olivieri.
Both teams have been given 20 days to reach an agreement. If they fail to do so, the WBO will call for a purse bid.
Former champion Keyshawn Davis was stripped of the belt after failing to make weight ahead of his scheduled bout with Edwin De Los Santos, which was ultimately canceled.
In their most recent outings, Mason stopped Jeremia Nakathila in five rounds, while Nokes scored a knockout victory over Patrik Balazs.
