WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman says the council will not be designating a mandatory challenger for undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for now.
“The WBC’s position is to preserve — wherever possible — the status of the undisputed heavyweight champion.
The WBC has already approved a number of bouts, which is why we sanctioned the interim‑title fight (between Agit Kabayel and Zhilei Zhang in February) to keep the division active and avoid stagnation. We’ll revisit the matter at the WBC Convention in the first week of December,” Sulaiman said.
A day earlier, the WBO sanctioned a bout between Oleksandr Usyk (24‑0, 15 KOs) and its interim titleholder Joseph Parker (36‑3, 24 KOs).
On 19 July, Usyk stopped Daniel Dubois by fifth‑round knockout to become a three‑time undisputed champion.
