British boxer Ben Whittaker recently announced a deal with Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn. Subsequently, Frank Warren, head of Queensberry Promotions, reacted to this rival signing:
“We never made Ben Whittaker an offer. I never spoke to him. My son George met him and his team, but we never made him any offers. And partly it's because of the list of opponents they'd like to fight.
We have a lot of light heavyweights. We are very strong in the light-heavyweight division. We would like all the guys to fight each other, and he clearly did not want that. So we never made an offer,” – said Warren.
Ben replied – insisted that Queensberry had come to him with an offer:
“If he was signing other people, he should have signed me. They came to me with some opponents who were worse than Benjamin Gavazzi (the next Whittaker opponent – ed.)... I’m not even saying that this guy is terrible. He has a 19-1 record, but they offered some opponents who were ridiculous. And I’m that guy: ‘I don’t know if I can fight him. I’ll probably be criticized for it’.
I chose Eddie for other reasons, and some people simply don’t like it. There is no hostility between us. Maybe we can work together later. We could work this out. We could fight one of their fighters, but to say he didn't make an offer... Come on, man. They made offers, but eventually, he will admit it,” said Whittaker.
Warren proposed a bet. If Ben proves that they offered him a contract, Frank will donate the money to a charity of his choice:
“Let him show the offer. If he does that – I will donate 50,000 pounds to any charity he chooses. Let him show the written offer from us that he received.
He has literally never had anything from me or from my office,” Warren said.
