Frank Warren, head of Queensberry Promotions and promoter of WBO interim Heavyweight titleholder Fabio Wardley, shared his view on his fighter’s chances in a potential matchup with the undisputed champion of the division Oleksandr Usyk.
“If he does it, it will be the greatest achievement in the history of boxing. Not British boxing — world boxing. No amateur background. A few white-collar bouts, fights against Joe Blow from Alamo — and after 21 fights he becomes the mandatory challenger for Usyk’s title. If Usyk doesn’t fight him, he will be recognized as the champion.
This is a true Cinderella story. He learned on the job, he was the underdog in every fight, and every time he came through. He’s a warrior,” Warren said.
On October 25, Fabio Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KOs) defeated Joseph Parker by technical knockout in the 11th round.
The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has ordered Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) to defend his title against the winner of that bout.
