Warren: «Usyk-Fury Rematch Will Be Much Bigger»

Tyson Fury’s (34-1-1, 24 KOs) promoter and head of Queensberry Promotions, Frank Warren, commented on the upcoming rematch of his client with the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), which is scheduled for December 21.

«I am very excited. The first fight was incredible. The greatest fight of the 21st century, an amazing heavyweight bout. Both guys left everything in the ring; they gave it all, and they want it to happen again. The rematch will be much bigger than the first fight because of how close, dynamic, and dramatic the first bout was. All that and even more will be in the next fight, I promise.

What does Fury need to change in the next fight? He needs to do what he does best, which is to box, get behind his jab, use his jab, and throw punches. And he did that. By the middle of the fight, he was really doing that at a top level, but Usyk got a second wind; he became different, and when he hit Tyson on the nose in the 7th round, it changed the dynamics of the fight. It seemed that Tyson briefly lost concentration, then, obviously, Usyk had a great 9th round.

The fight consisted of two parts, that’s how I saw it. Tyson won the last round, he knows better than anyone else what he needs to do. And I’m sure Usyk does too. They need time to recover, and it will be interesting to see who learned more from the first fight,» said Warren.

On the night of May 19, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury by split decision to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Usyk is the first undisputed champion in this division since November 13, 1999, when Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in a rematch.
