Wardley Reveals When He Might Seriously Consider a Fight Against Itauma

British WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley has shared his thoughts on when a potential clash with rising prospect Moses Itauma might become a reality.

“I don’t think we’re anywhere near that bridge at the moment. Right now, we very much see each other as stablemates. He’s someone I train right next to. Since we’re in the same gym together, it’s just an impossibility right now.

Don’t get me wrong—I want to see him do well and break the record as the youngest world heavyweight champion in British history. Just not with my belt.

Of course, I understand the interest from everyone who wants to see us fight, who looks at our styles and says, ‘Yeah, that would be a great matchup.’ But right now, nothing like that is going to happen simply because of the circumstances.

Ultimately, there’s still a lot for both of us to achieve before we seriously start looking at each other. I know I’ve got one world title and he’s hoping to pick up another, but there are still two others out there to go grab.

So, when I have two and he has two—then maybe we’ll need to have a serious conversation about it,” Wardley said.

To break the record, Itauma must become a world champion by July 2026. Currently, the title of the youngest world champion in British history is held by Naseem Hamed.

Aside from Wardley, the other heavyweight titles are held by Oleksandr Usyk, who currently owns the WBA, WBC, and IBF belts. Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) was scheduled to face Jermaine Franklin on January 24, 2026, but the bout was recently postponed to March 28 due to an injury sustained by the young prospect.
