The former world champ Nicholas Walters is gearing up for a grand return to the top. He's been testing the waters with some interim bouts, ensuring his punches still have that old spark. "Checked to make sure my firepower's still there, and I'm confident it is. From here on, it's only tough contenders for me. Cracking into the top 10 rankings is my target. That's my ticket to a world title shot," he asserted.
Walters, now fighting as a lightweight, is sure he can easily tip the scales at 61.2 kg. At 37, he's not hanging up his gloves yet. "Got a solid four years left in the ring. All I need is to stay sharp, train hard, and keep my ears open to my coach's advice. Let's roll into 2024. I'm gunning to reclaim that world champion title, for me and for Jamaica," Walters shared with The Gleaner.
His last major tussle was with Vasiliy Lomachenko in November 2016, a fight that didn't go his way. After a hiatus, Walters jumped back into the ring in February 2023, making a statement by outboxing two opponents, one by the judges' decision and the other with a thunderous technical knockout in the 2nd round. Watch out, lightweight division. Walters is back, and he's not pulling any punches!
