
Preliminary negotiations have commenced for a bout between interim WBC super welterweight champion Virgil Ortiz (22-0, 21 KOs) and IBF welterweight titleholder Jaron Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs), according to insider Dan Rafael.
Rafael reports that Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy Promotions, has provided details on the discussions.
"According to Eric Gomez of Golden Boy, preliminary talks have begun with Matchroom Boxing regarding a fight between Virgil Ortiz and Jaron Ennis at super welterweight, tentatively scheduled for February 22 as part of the Riyadh Season event," Rafael stated.
Both fighters recently faced Ukrainian opponents: Ortiz secured a victory over Serhii Bohachuk (24-2, 23 KOs), while Ennis defeated Karen Chukhadzhian (24-3, 13 KOs).
