In a recent Ready To Fight YouTube video, heavyweight contender Steven Torres shared his journey into Oleksandr Usyk's training camp in Spain, where the Ukrainian titleholder was gearing up for his clash with Tyson Fury.
"I'm 25, hailing from Puerto Rico. My upbringing was challenging and filled with numerous hardships, agony, and losses. Yet, here I stand, proof that overcoming is possible. My passion lies in boxing - the joy in the ring, the thrill of the fight, and the smiles amidst the punches mirror my own approach," Stephen revealed about his background.
"Joining Usyk's camp via Ready To Fight happened with the speed of a breeze"
Sergey Lapin reached out to me on Instagram, which initially seemed too good to trust, considering the general disregard for boxers by promoters, agents, and managers. Being part of Usyk's team was a dream, having followed Alexander since childhood. He's my idol, making this opportunity feel like a divine blessing. My connection with Ready To Fight began with an Instagram ad, leading me to create a profile, gather a following, share my story, and eventually apply for the camp. Surprisingly, it led me straight to Spain, marking my first trip outside the U.S. Sergey Lapin, Team Usyk's CEO, recognized my compatibility - my ambidexterity, agility, and speed, coupled with my stature at 201 centimeters, made me an ideal candidate. Through Ready To Fight, I've now achieved this milestone.
"Usyk's prowess is undeniably potent."
Observing the focus on fundamentals within Usyk's camp underscored their simplicity yet effectiveness. The ethos here forbids idleness; every moment demands effort, strategy, and persistence. Regular sparring with Alexander proved enlightening - his underrated agility and power, reminiscent of a middleweight's, are formidable.
"Usyk is poised to dismantle Fury."
My role mimicked Fury's tactics, yet Usyk had already unraveled Tyson's strategy. Predicting the outcome of a hypothetical match on February 17 is challenging due to the unpredictable nature of boxing. However, my belief tilts towards Usyk's victory, promising an enthralling spectacle. Boxing transcends mere physical dominance; it celebrates intellect, skill, and technique. Usyk's strategy will likely exploit every aspect of Fury's approach, leveraging his comparatively more petite stature.
