Serge Lapin, director of Oleksandr Usyk’s team and CEO of Ready to Fight, assessed the chances of a bout between the undisputed heavyweight champion and former title-holder Deontay Wilder.
“A fight with Wilder is potentially possible, but everything depends on the circumstances. At the moment he isn’t even a mandatory challenger.
Wilder is still one of the most dangerous punchers in boxing, even though it’s clear he’s at a career crossroads. Writing him off would be a mistake—he’s unpredictable, and that’s always dangerous,” Lapin said.
On 19 July, Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) knocked out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round to become undisputed world champion for the third time.
On 27 June, Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) stopped Tyrell Herndon by seventh-round TKO.
