WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) conducted a symbolic training session at a power plant destroyed by Russian attacks, expressing solidarity with Ukrainian energy workers tirelessly restoring the country’s power grid.
By training at the devastated facility, Usyk aims to draw global attention to the scale of destruction, the long-term rebuilding efforts, and the urgent need for international support.
Usyk: "It’s incredible that after every attack—no matter how severe the damage—energy workers keep repairing the infrastructure and bringing light back to Ukrainians.
These people themselves radiate light and hope. Ukraine needs the world's help to restore its energy system—this is our shared battle."
"Fight for Light" Campaign. Usyk has joined forces with DTEK, launching the "Battle for Light" initiative. The campaign's goal is to:
– Raise international awareness of Ukraine’s energy crisis.
– Secure global support for the protection and rebuilding of critical infrastructure.
Background
Russia’s hybrid war against Ukraine began in 2014 with the illegal annexation of Crimea. On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion, attacking Ukraine from multiple directions, including from Belarus.
Since then, Russia has fired over 2,300 missiles and drones at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving millions without power. Tens of thousands of civilians have lost their lives due to Russia’s unprovoked aggression.
