Lapin Confirms: Usyk to Keep All Current Belts Ahead of Wilder Fight

Serhii Lapin, CEO of the team representing WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, stated that Usyk will not lose any more titles before facing Deontay Wilder. Previously, Oleksandr vacated the WBO belt after the organization mandated a fight against Fabio Wardley.

“Yes, the sanctioning of the defense by the WBC is exactly the kind of step and decision we needed. This approach allows us to maintain the sporting logic of the process and move forward without unnecessary compromises.

Anything is possible in boxing, especially now, as we see how actively the sport is developing and how much is being done to make boxing bigger, brighter, and more attractive.

At the same time, there could be other interesting options. There has never been an undisputed heavyweight world title fight in the United States—and that in itself is a very powerful and exciting narrative,” Lapin said.

Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) personally proposed the fight to Deontay Wilder. Negotiations are currently ongoing.
