According to the publication "Champion," two-time undisputed professional champion and 2012 Olympic winner Oleksandr Usyk, during a meeting with the Ukrainian Olympic boxing team, handed out envelopes with monetary rewards to the fighters and promised to pay out of his own pocket for the prizes for medals in Paris.
Usyk valued the gold medal at $80,000, the silver at $70,000, and the bronze at $50,000.
Promoter Alexander Krassyuk confirmed this information to Tribuna.com.
Usyk himself participated in two Olympics – in 2008 in Beijing and in 2012 in London. At his second Olympic competition among amateur boxers, Usyk won gold.
