In a comment to Seconds Out, the holder of the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles (over 200 lbs) and co-founder of Ready To Fight, Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) shared his thoughts on the condition of WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) ahead of their bout. Oleksandr is confident that Tyson will prepare for him much better than he did for Francis Ngannou (0-2).
- Are you worried that in case of a victory over Fury, your success might not be properly appreciated, considering how Tyson looked in the fight against Ngannou?
- Listen, Fury will be different in the fight against me. I think when Tyson boxed with Francis, he behaved something like: "Oh, this is a UFC guy, blah-blah-blah, I will easily win this fight, blah-blah-blah." I don't know, maybe it's true, maybe not, but I know that Tyson Fury will be different in the fight against me.
- Tony Bellew, your former opponent, said that Fury will lose to you, despite having an advantage in size. Do you think your style is perfectly suited to defeat Fury?
- I don't know, it doesn't matter to me. I have a lot of respect for Tony because he's a good friend of mine, but I'm only focused on my own preparation. I don't read any news – all my attention is focused only on my team and the preparation for May 18th.
My style is magnificent, that's my opinion. Maybe people think differently, but it doesn't matter to me. Someone might say, "Usyk has a bad style," someone else might say, "Good," it's not important. I like my style, it's magnificent.
The fight for the undisputed heavyweight world championship between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will take place on May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
