The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has honored heavyweight champion and Ready to Fight co-founder Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) and two-time Olympic fencing champion Olga Kharlan with the "National Legend of Ukraine" awards.
"It is an honor for me today to award true legends of Ukraine. We celebrate those who strengthen our warriors, empower them every day, and inspire. These are people who bring glory to Ukraine, bolster our defense, and inspire all Ukrainian citizens.
Nina Matviyenko, Howard Buffett, Oleksandr Dubovyk, Oleg Korostelev, Ivan Lukashevych, Ihor Poklad, Oleksandr Usyk, Olga Kharlan, Vitaliy Khmel, Iryna Yurchenko, Sergei Parajanov – we are immensely grateful and very happy to live in a country united by such respected and talented individuals," Zelenskyy wrote.
The "National Legend of Ukraine" is a state award established by the President of Ukraine to recognize citizens for their outstanding personal contributions to the establishment of Ukraine's independence, the strengthening of its statehood, the defense of the homeland, service to the Ukrainian people, and significant contributions to the development of the national economy, science, education, culture, arts, sports, healthcare, as well as active charitable and public activities.
