WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) has named the toughest British opponents he has faced in the heavyweight division.
– Of all the British heavyweights you have fought — Fury, Joshua, Dubois — where would you place Daniel Dubois among them?
– First of all, I am grateful to Britain and to all my British opponents. The first one — Joe Joyce. It was ‘British Lions’ against ‘Ukrainian Atamans’, six rounds, semi-professional series. So, the first — Joe Joyce. Thank you, my friend.
The second — Dereck Chisora. For me, it was a great test because it was just the beginning of my heavyweight career. I won. Dereck, brother, thank you very much.
Then came AJ. Two fights. AJ, brother, huge thanks to you, because after these fights my career went upwards. Thank you, brother, twice.
Then came Daniel Dubois. And then twice — Tyson Fury. Hey, greedy belly, brother, thank you very much too. You are great.
Now we are setting up a rematch, the second fight with Daniel Dubois. And that’s great. I think it’s great.
– But out of all these fights, Oleksandr, which one was the toughest?
– Who was the toughest? I think it was Dereck. And the first fight with Tyson Fury.
Usyk’s next fight will take place against Daniel Dubois on July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London, United Kingdom. The bout will be for the title of undisputed heavyweight world champion.
