Former undisputed world heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg) and co-founder of Ready To Fight, Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), shared his expectations for the platform's future impact.
– I know that you and your Ready to Fight team met with international organizations and discussed offering innovations for boxing. What are your ideas for improving the sport, making it more interesting, and attracting a larger audience?
– I’ll say more: I can’t disclose everything, but my large Ready to Fight team has solutions we can offer. Whether they're interested or not, we have ready solutions that my team and I are working on.
– How is boxing evolving? You’re inside the sport but also observe what's happening. How is it changing nowadays?
– It's becoming more digital. It will be easier to find talented athletes who lack opportunities and resources. They might have cunning managers or assistants. As we know, if you don't read the contract and don’t have people to help you, you’ll get a contract that makes you a perpetual slave to it. In my view, we have a solution to elevate boxing to a new level and help it grow even more.
– You’re at the pinnacle of boxing and still want to change it. You’re speaking on behalf of the average guys who signed unfair contracts and could be continually deceived. You should theoretically be fine with the status quo.
– It's like saying, "My house is on the edge – I know nothing." I’m doing great, so everyone else can go take a hike. That's uninteresting. It’s a bit selfish. I want to do something so that in 40 years, a yet-to-be-born boy from Ukraine wins Olympic gold with the help of the Ready to Fight platform. That’s an incredible concept. Because 40 years from now, he’ll be telling his kids that the Usyk team and Ready to Fight created this.
