Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), holding the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO titles, shared his thoughts on commercial and exhibition fights, and commented on the possibility of a showdown against UFC star Conor McGregor.
"My attitude towards these kinds of fights is normal. People earn money however they can. But there’s no need to turn it into chaos, hurling insults and inappropriate words when kids are watching. It shouldn’t be filled with filth, the kind that brings no real value to people.
As for the fact that they box, that these events are organized, and people come and pay to watch—it’s their choice. Nobody forces them to attend or pay for it, right? So, people make a living that way. If there’s demand, there’s supply.
Would I get in the ring for something like that? Why would I need it? The idea of doing something with McGregor is purely historical. Imagine staging it somewhere in Italy, in the Colosseum? That would be cool. We could gather a good crowd, promote our countries, and everything we want," said Usyk.
