WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and his team have responded to accusations from Daniel Dubois’ camp, who claimed the Ukrainian exaggerated the impact of a controversial low blow during their first fight.
Speaking directly to Dubois’ trainer’s suggestion that he was “acting” after the shot landed below the belt, Usyk fired back with sarcasm:
“You’re right — I deserve an Oscar. But listen, you should teach your fighter how to land clean punches. I won that fight with my right hand — just a jab. Bam! That was enough.”
Meanwhile, Team Usyk CEO Serhii Lapin added a sharp message of his own, complete with a touch of mockery:
“There’s been a lot of talk about the illegal blow in the first fight. Let me remind everyone — our guy beat their guy with just a jab. That’s it. A jab and a knockout. I’ve even prepared some rules for your team — a little guide on where you can and can’t punch in boxing. We’ll see you in July at Wembley.”
The rematch between Usyk and Dubois is set for July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London. Here we compared the statistics of the rivals in the first confrontation.
