Ukrainian WBA, WBC, and WBO heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg) Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) wished his compatriots good luck at the Olympics in Paris, France.
"We are going to the Olympics!
I remember my own journey there 12 years ago, striving for gold.
I vividly recall the emotions – a mix of fear and determination, the drive for victory. Now, I want to support the members of the Ukrainian team who are experiencing these feelings.
It's hard to accept that this could be the last Olympics featuring boxing competitions.
The loss would be devastating for our sport, as amateur boxing is where new talents emerge. I believe that Olympic gold is the pinnacle of achievement for any athlete.
That's why my team, Ready To Fight, and I are dedicating our time in Paris to finding ways to help.
We aim to preserve Olympic boxing for future generations, ensuring it remains fair, transparent, and truly Olympic," Usyk said.
The 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11. The event will be held in Paris and 16 other cities in France, as well as on the island of Tahiti.
