The newly crowned undisputed world heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg) Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) commented on his victory over Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
"I am very grateful to my team and to my God. Thank you, Turki, for this great opportunity. For my family, for my country. Glory to Ukraine! This is an amazing day. Tyson, without you, this would have been impossible.
Since 2008, I have been planning this. This is not just for my victory. This is for my God, my fans, my country, the Ukrainian soldiers, the Ukrainian parents, and children. I want to go home, I want to rest, relax, eat, sleep, and kiss my wife," said Usyk.
The fight lasted all 12 rounds and ended with the Ukrainian's victory by split decision. The judges' scores were: 115-112 (Usyk), 114-113 (Fury), and 114-113 (Usyk).
Oleksandr Usyk is the first undisputed heavyweight champion since November 13, 1999, when Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in a rematch.
