Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs), holder of the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles, got into a heated argument with a member of Daniel Dubois’ (22-2, 21 KOs) camp regarding the controversial low blow from their first encounter.
Usyk: Your fighter hit me here. (points below the belt)
Dubois’ team member: And your reaction?
Usyk: Stop.
Dubois’ team member: Your reaction?
Usyk: Listen, are you a doctor?
Dubois’ team member: You saw Shakur. You saw Floyd. We always knew – they would stop the fight.
Usyk: After the fight, we’ll go to central London. Your team — four people. Our team — four people. And they can... (hits his fist into his palm)
Dubois’ team member: I’d love that. Believe me, brother. Listen, boxing is boxing. But in life, I’ll rip your eyes out. Your tongue will be hanging out of your mouth. Forget it. So let’s keep it within boxing.
Usyk: Okay.
The rematch between Usyk and Dubois is scheduled for July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London, United Kingdom. At stake will be the title of undisputed heavyweight world champion (over 90.7 kg).
Their first fight, in August 2023, saw Usyk stop Dubois via ninth-round knockout.
In the fifth round, Dubois sent Usyk to the canvas, but the referee ruled it a low blow, not a knockdown, and allowed Usyk time to recover. Full fight statistics from their first encounter are available via the link.
In December, Oleksandr Usyk also defeated Tyson Fury by unanimous decision in their rematch. In February, Daniel Dubois was scheduled to defend his title against Joseph Parker, but withdrew due to illness.
