Kateryna Tolstikova, dietitian of undisputed Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk, spoke about the possibility of the Ukrainian ending his career.
According to her, the boxer is still capable of continuing at the highest level, and his body remains ready to withstand the demands despite age and the difficult living conditions in Ukraine.
“Judging by what he does and by the test results I’ve been seeing for six years, I don’t think he’ll want to just go on rest. His body is still capable of competing and training.
Of course, it may not be as easy as when he was 20, but there are many factors influencing that. We live in a country with constant stress, with war, where every day we psychologically suffer from accelerated aging. Even non-athletes, ordinary people, are losing years of life right now.
As for Oleksandr, of course these are questions for him, but if he continues, if he wants it and we prepare for new fights, I will do everything possible to ensure his body does not age for some time yet. Because physical activity, especially at the professional level, is exhausting in itself, leading to faster wear and aging,” Tolstikova said.
On July 19, Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) knocked out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round to become undisputed world champion for the third time.
