“Too small? For what?” Usyk on Opetaia’s Chances at Heavyweight

Unified heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk (WBA, WBC, WBO, IBO) shared his thoughts on the future of IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia, who may follow in Usyk’s footsteps — dominate the cruiserweight division and then move up to heavyweight.

Yes, I like that guy. He’s a great athlete, a world champion in cruiserweight. Maybe, with hard training, he’ll be able to move up a weight class. Maybe, but I don’t know. Many people say: ‘Hey, you’re too small, blah blah blah.’ Okay, too small for what? All you need is your will, your heart, and your mind. That’s what matters most,” said Usyk.

Earlier, Oleksandr commented on the idea of a political career.

On June 8, Opetaia successfully defended his title by knocking out Claudio Squeo in the fifth round.

On July 19, Usyk is set to fight Daniel Dubois for the undisputed heavyweight title.
