Former world heavyweight champion and boxing legend Mike Tyson expressed his profound dissatisfaction with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's (60-2-2, 39 KOs) reluctance to fight David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs).
"I can't believe what I just heard. Canelo turned down $60 million to fight Benavidez, who is an excellent fighter, young, strong, hungry, the pride of Mexico. What's wrong with Canelo? Is he afraid of losing? Doesn't he want to give the fans the fight they want to see? Doesn't he respect the legacy of the great Mexican champions who faced the best, regardless of the money? This is a disgrace to boxing and Mexico. If I were him, I'd take the fight with Benavidez and show the world that I'm the best. But it seems he lacks the courage to do that. It's a shame because he's got a lot of talent, but he lacks the strength to prove it," Tyson stated.
Previously, Saul announced a fight on May 4th but mentioned that his opponent would not be the Mexican. Subsequently, Alvarez terminated a three-fight agreement with the promotional company RVS, which wanted to organize a fight against Benavidez this year.
