Tyson Praises Shakur’s Boxing, Points Out One Flaw

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson shared his view on WBC Lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson’s recent bout, in which Stevenson outpointed William Zepeda on the judges’ cards.

In my opinion, Shakur Stevenson looked the best he ever has in his last fight. Those skilful combinations and head movement—he’s still young and he’s already doing it. He looked magnificent.

Everyone wants him to show he can take a punch, but the art is to hit and not get hit. This is boxing, and that was the best opponent he’s ever faced. The fight was tough, and he beat him with no problem. In the centre of the ring he was brilliant. I just don’t like it when he spends too long on the ropes,” Tyson wrote.

Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) defeated William Zepeda (33-1, 27 KOs) on 12 July in Queens, winning a unanimous decision: 118-110 twice and 119-109.
