On the night of November 16 in Arlington, USA, 58-year-old former undisputed champion Mike Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) stepped into the ring to face 27-year-old internet sensation and boxer Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs).
The 8-round bout ended with Jake Paul securing a unanimous decision victory, bowing to the veteran in a show of respect during the final seconds of the fight.
The boxing world had mixed reactions to the showdown between Iron Mike and the younger Paul.
Tony Bellew:
"I don’t like this dumb idiot [Jake], but I’ll say this… He stopped beating on Mike and showed respect and dignity by letting him survive! He didn’t go for the knockout; he stepped back and left him alone. Mike, we all love you, king—you’re a superhero to all of us in the real boxing world!"
Terence Crawford:
"I love Mike Tyson, but he’s overrated. He looked like trash—training for so long and throwing only 97 punches the entire fight is just crazy. I’m just glad he didn’t get hurt in there."
Ryan Garcia:
"There’s no point to this fight."
Gervonta Davis:
"You’ll always be a legend... Like it or not, there’ll never be another like you! And I get it... None of this stuff really matters."
Nico Ali Walsh:
"Jake Paul is a disgrace to this sport. If Grandpa were still here, he’d have challenged him too. Absolutely shameless... Love you, Mike."
Michael Benson:
"Jake Paul finishes the fight with Mike Tyson by bowing to the legend. Say what you want about Jake, but he did the right thing by not going for a knockout today."
